Antidepressants, including Wellbutrin and tricyclics, like Desipramine and Imipramine, have long been used as second line medications. These
second line medications are used when two or more stimulants don't work
or contraindicated, or have more number of side effects. Antidepressants
are usually not as effective medication as stimulants.
