Treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder With Meds ADHD
[attention deficit hyperactivity disorder] is disease condition of the
brain. This disorder can come to both boys and girls. There are many treatments
are available to cure the symptoms of ADHD. Stimulats like adderall and
Ritalin are more popular treatment options. This
works out very cheaper .if we buy the medicines [adderall and Ritalin]
at whole sale rate, this could save about 15-30% of the medicine cost
per month. If we buy in retail price, the saving of medicine cost will
be much more than 30% per month. Clonidine is also used at times for children who have ADHD and a coexisting condition. In addition to medications, as per the American academy of pediatrics policy statement on the Treatment of the School going Child with ADHD, behavior therapy can be very well tried. This behavior therapy include parent training and group sessions with a trained therapist to change the behavior of the child with ADHD at home and in the classroom. The parent therapy and group sessions can have duration of 8 to 12 weeks. Other
psychological interventions like play therapy and cognitive therapy can
also be tried along with medication .but the efficacy of the other psychological
therapies is yet to be ascertained. The FDA approved Strattera (atomoxetine) recently to treat ADHD. This new non-stimulant drug can be used to treat ADHD in adults and children who are over six years of age. As a matter of fact this is not the first non-stimulant medication that is used for ADHD. Antidepressants, including Wellbutrin and tricyclics, like Desipramine and Imipramine, have long been used as second line medications. These
second line medications are used when two or more stimulants don't work
or contraindicated, or have more number of side effects. Antidepressants
are usually not as effective medication as stimulants.
