Cylert has a gradual onset of action. The recommended dosage if administered , clinical benefit may not be seen until the third or fourth week. Cylert (pemoline) is generally administered as a single [oral] dose each morning. The starting dose is 37.5 mg/day.
This dose should be increased by 18.75 mg gradually at one week intervals until the desired response is obtained. The effective daily dose for majority ofthe patients with ADHD will range from 56.25 to 75 mg.
The dosage should not exceed 112.5 mg per day. The improvement in ADHD symptoms with Cylert is gradual. The administration of this medicine should be interrupted occasionally to find out if there is a recurrence of behavioral symptoms .
As this medicine has life threatening hepatic failure as a side effect,Cylert should not be considered as first line drug therapy for ADHD. The interaction of Cylert (pemoline) with other drugs when given simultaneously has not been studied in humans.
