children with ADHD need more love, praise and attention than the average
CHILDREN. His errant and aberrant behavior may make him feel Isolated
and uncared. Hence we should boost up his self-confidence. We have to bring the child to the park whenever is Possible so that he can work off some energy. Time out is very much required for parents who are looking after child with ADHD. WE need to recharge ourselves. Looking after a hyperactive child is very tiring. A hyperactive child weakens all relationships within the family. We should go out without the child with ADHD at least one time a week. We have to make time to be together with our partner in a relaxed and calm environment. We must remember to spend some time with our other children. It is very much true that the squeaky wheel often gets the most oil. Sleep Deprivation could be a cause of ADHD. The FDA of United States has approved Strattera (atomoxetine) for the treatment of ADHD. This is a no stimulant and the first new drug that is prescribed in three decades for treatment of symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Taking decision on medicine that need to be used to treat the r child with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is not all that easy. Ritalin is very widely used. At present we have a much larger choice among stimulants that can be used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD]. The newer medications have the advantage that they need to be given once a day and can continue to work for up to 12 hours. A sustained release version of Ritalin, called Ritalin SR was available in the past. But most people found that it did not work consistently. These newer medications are not needed as lunch time dose. Still the sustained release forms of these medications have the benefit of producing effect even when the child is trying to do his homework. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics [AAP] at least 80% of children will show very good response to one of the stimulants. So even when
one or two medications don't work or have unwanted side effects, the third
medication can be very well tried. We can have a doubt here. How to decide
which medicine is best to try first? As a matter of fact and as per AAP
all stimulants improve core symptoms equally.
