Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Diagnosis And Treatment

Attention Deficit hyperactive Disorder [ADHD] is one of the most common brain disorders. Even when medical professionals agree that people do not outgrow Attention Deficit hyperactive Disorder.

Pediatricians prescribe more than 50 percent amphetamine (Adderall) and methylphenidate (Ritalin). Most expert's beleive that the true prevalence of Attention Deficit hyperactive Disorder [ADHD] in the U.S is almost three to five percent [roughly two million children].

Currently, about six million children take prescription for ADHD in United States.Boys are three times more likely to receive a diagnosis of ADHD and receive stimulant ADHD medication.

That boys are more rowdy and energetic in general than their calmer female counterparts .The major surprising element is the high rate of incidence of the ADHD label on boys with symptoms of ADHD and the high rate of prescriptions written for boys with symptoms of ADHD.

Are there true physiological differences in boys that put them at a higher risk for Attention Deficit Disorder? . This is an important question, which calls for explanation.

Despite the high frequency of ADHD diagnosis in boys, studies till date do not confirm a strong physiological difference between the sexes. Regions within the country [United States] vary in Attention Deficit hyperactive Disorder diagnosis and prescription.

The United State Drug Enforcement Agency has a system those tracks Schedule II substances from point of manufacture to pharmacy.

This tracking system can find out the amount of methylphenidate (Ritalin) and amphetamine (Adderall) used per capita in entire states.

The data shows that there are wide variances in the use of Ritalin, Adderall and Dexedrine between states and from one community to another within the states.

The DEA data identifies some regions with almost no ADHD medication use and other regions with 10 to 20 percent of populations receiving stimulant ADHD medication for the symptoms of ADHD.

In the year 1999, New England states grabbed five of the top 10 positions for most prescribed methylphenidate (Ritalin) and four of the top 10 positions for amphetamine (Adderall) prescriptions.

Attention Deficit hyperactive Disorder ADHD is as a national epidemic. Some people argue that the symptoms of Attention Deficit hyperactive Disorder do not make to a disease.

They consider this as a personality type. Believers of this line of thinking argue against medicating the patient to exhibit acceptable behaviors.

Many physicians and parents believe that the medical community over diagnose the symptoms of ADHD and over prescribe ADHD medications.

Many newer thinking physicians believe that a parent should carefully study the ADHD facts and findings and research the benefits and demerits of Ritalin, Adderall, Dexedrine and other ADHD medications before making a decision to medicate the patient with symptoms of ADHD.
