Behavioral therapy is the best natural therapy to treat persons who are suffering from ADHD [Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder],a disorder of brain. The sufferers mostly children are hyperactive .

In addition to positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior, behavioral treatment also depend on negative consequences or punishment to minimize the negative or undesirable behavior.

When a particular behavior of the child with ADHD results in negative consequences,the child will automatically diminish frequency and intensity of such bad behavior.

In case if the parent tries to reduce the child's tendency to "talk back", the approach discussed below can be tried. The child need to understand exactly what we mean by "talking back".

The parent should make the child to understand the meaning of "talking back". So the child will be clear about what should not be done. The parent need to teach the child an acceptable way to disagree with us .

Again it is the duty of the parent to teach the child how he or she is allowed to express disagreement and how they should not. The parent should inform the child what reward he or she will get if they stop"talking back".

By doing this ,we make the child to understand what he or she will earn for not talking back and for expressing disagreements in an acceptable way.Finally, we should discuss with the child what privileges or reward they will lose each time they "talk back".

Few examples of the punishment are "time out", losing TV time, and having to go to bed early. If we are using a token system where your child is accumulating tokens for the good behavior, talking back can result in the loss of certain number of tokens.

By doing things this way, we make sure that the child understands that there will be punishment for bad behavior. We also make the child to understand that if he or she acts appropriately, it will always result in good things coming their way.

While tring this approach the parent should not overdo the negative consequences. Children may get discouraged if the negative consequences are used too frequently.

The child may lose interest in the program itself. If in case we observe that we need to resort to negative consequences too frequently, it is very important to have a careful look at what may be going wrong. We may need to redesign the program if required.
